Marriage Preparation

Marriage is the most important relationship investment in our lives β€” make sure you enter it well prepared.

Are you getting married?

Congratulations! You are likely excited and busy planning your wedding day and wedding attire. Have you also planned for your married life? Make sure you invest in marriage preparation!

What is marriage preparation?

A marriage, like any relationship, requires intentional care. None of us automatically had classes in how to communicate effectively, how to fight fair, or how to nurture lasting emotional intimacy. A marriage is a living entity that requires attention and care.

The best time to work on a marriage is before the wedding, when couples are eager to invest energy into making their marriage thrive. Marriage preparation equips couples to take shared responsibility for their relationship from the very start and proactively navigate potential conflict areas.

What does marriage preparation consist of?

Marriage preparation consists of 6 structured sessions covering the following core themes:

  • Session 1: Marriage in the light of Scripture
  • Session 2: Know yourself
  • Session 3: Know your partner
  • Session 4: Family of origin
  • Session 5: Communication and conflict resolution
  • Session 6: Sexuality

Marriage preparation helps couples understand that marriage is a gift from God and shows how to build a unique, healthy identity for their relationship. Alongside self-discovery and conflict resolution, couples explore each person’s family of origin, which shapes expectations in marriage.

Throughout the preparation, questionnaires, guided discussions, and practical exercises help couples continue meaningful conversations between sessions.
